Lake Norman Homes for Sale

The explosive real estate boom during the 1990’s brought change throughout Greater Charlotte; but no part of the region was changed more than Lake Norman. With 520 miles of shoreline in the four counties of Mecklenburg, Iredell, Lincoln and Catawba, there were boundless opportunities for development and new Lake Norman homes. And with I-77 and other infrastructure completed by the early 80's, Lake Norman became a twenty minute drive from Charlotte. Year-round living became an option!

And very quickly, the "lake" became one of the Charlotte region’s most desirable places to live.

Communities such as The Peninsula in Cornelius, River Run in Davidson and Governors Island in Denver in Lincoln County, brought forth grand Lake Norman homes. Other landmark lake home communities included Birkdale Village in Huntersville, The Point in Mooresville, Patricks Purchase, Crown Harbor, Sterling Pointe, Sailview, Pointe Regatta, Wrights Emerald Cove, The Farms and The Harbour at the Pointe.

The price of property began a sharp rise and...

...valuable land meant valuable Lake Norman homes. Indeed most of the homes were upscale, large and expensive… often multi-million dollars. In addition, many very nice condo and townhome communities grew up around the lake. To join the Lake Norman community, you have a wide variety of choices…waterfront homes, golf course homes, homes in small towns, homes in planned communities, new homes, townhomes and more.

Lake Norman Real Estate

Lake Norman means much more than water to locals! It is the entire region that has grown along with the lake development and includes the towns of Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville and Denver - all of which benefited more tremendously from spillover development AND a vastly increased tax base of million dollar lake homes.

Lake Norman HomesToday there are hundreds on communities around Lake Norman, including many away from the lake, but close enough for residents to be a part of the Lake Norman “community”. Some of the most noteworthy include two golf course communities, Northstone and Skybrook, plus Latta Springs, The Hamptons and Vermillion in Huntersville.

The growth around Lake Norman brought forth needed business services, including loads of restaurants, bars and other entertainment nearby. Serious shopping became available with Birkdale Village, a trend setting mixed-use development in Huntersville, and NorthLake Mall in 2005.

Lake Norman Schools

With the lake surrounded by four counties, it clear that public schooling is not homogeneous for residents and variance in quality of Lake Norman schools should be expected. Here are the Lake Norman school districts:

  • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS)
  • Iredell-Statesville Schools
  • Lincoln County Schools
  • Catawba County Schools

All potential home buyers with children in school are advised to conduct their own research into the designated Lake Norman schools before buying a home. This should include a visit to the school(s), in addition an analysis of all available information. The NC School Report Card provides an excellent picture of a school’s ranking in the State of North Carolina and respective district.
