Before the “Great Recession”, Union County homes were some of the most sought after homes in the Carolinas. In fact, Union County was the fastest growing county in Greater Charlotte and was very near the top county nationally... in terms of people moving in versus people moving out.
Union County is blessed with beautiful terrain...
...of the rolling hills of the Piedmont – mostly farm land, pastures and forest prior to the growth of Charlotte creating a huge demand for Union County homes. The county offers a wide variety of homes & communities. Eastern Union County tends to more rural & less developed, with lower priced homes.
Western Union County homes are my specialty – from Waxhaw homes to Weddington homes and from Marvin homes to Wesley Chapel homes. This part of the county has grown as South Charlotte homes have overflowed into Union County. And the resulting communities & subdivisions are widely spread over the country side – reminiscent of the hill towns of Tuscany.
Union County Real Estate
The towns of Western Union County are an interesting lot; however, the only one with real town buildings is historic Waxhaw. The other towns & villages – Weddington, Marvin, Wesley Chapel & Mineral Springs – are little more than crossroads without a town central. The Union County real estate one finds in these small towns is practically all residential... scattered throughout the incorporated area.
Waxhaw real estate is a mix of the old and new.
The old started as early as the mid-1700s; but grew after the arrival of the railroad in 1901. Downtown Waxhaw offers some of the most charming Union County real estate…where antiquing and dining have been replacing older “Main Street” businesses for years. And since 2000, numerous subdivisions have come on the scene, offering upscale living and bringing newcomers from distant places.
Weddington real estate is well known for its large residential lots – one acre or more.
And given this large lot requirement and proximity to Charlotte, Weddington has appealed to a very affluent demographic. In fact, most new construction of Union County real estate targeted the more affluent…particularly true in and around Marvin, Wesley Chapel and Mineral Springs.

Union County Schools :: Union County Public Schools
Union County public schools are widely considered some of the best in the Charlotte area…and are highly sought. Because of the recent population growth many of the Union County schools are relatively new. And until recently, the county was pushed to provide new schools for the booming Union County real estate market.
The Western Union County high schools are Marvin Ridge High School and Weddington High School, plus South Providence in Waxhaw…which includes both high school & middle school. The other middle schools are Marvin Ridge Middle School & Weddington Middle School.
The Western Union County elementary schools are Marvin Elementary, Rea View Elementary, Kensington Elementary, Waxhaw Elementary, Weddington Elementary, Wesley Chapel Elementary and New Town Elementary.
All Union County home buyers with children in school are advised to conduct their own research into potential schools before making an Offer to Purchase. This should include a visit to the school(s), in addition an analysis of all available information. The NC School Report Card provides an excellent picture of each school’s ranking in the state and district.
