For the month of May - the latest data available - the Charlotte real estate market had a 7.8 percent increase in closed sales over the month before...but a decrease of 31.2 percent from the same period last year. The average sales price for April was $199,243 - a decrease of 11.0 percent from last year -and a decrease of 1.0 percent from last month.
According to the S&P/Case-Shilling home price index for 20 major cities as of the end of April, the Charlotte housing market was still one of the better performers for the preceding 12 months. Charlotte home prices decreased 9.3% compared to the national average decrease of 19.1%. Only Denver, Dallas, Cleveland and Boston faired the best in terms of annual declines down 5.5%, 5.6%, 9.0% and 8.0%, respectively.
